August Musings

I always sit down to write these musings and wonder where on earth the time has gone. Somehow, months have passed since I last put fingers to keyboard — although, in my defence, we do have a rather lovely new distraction in the family…

Our grandson arrived three weeks ago, and, unsurprisingly, we are completely smitten. So, if I seem a little preoccupied with photographs of tiny hands, sleepy faces and this gorgeous new boy, you’ll know why!

Summer in the Peaks

It’s been a busy summer here in the Peaks, with visitors enjoying their annual holidays, lots of familiar faces returning to see our refurbished space, and our brilliant team discovering just how much better the new layout works when we’re under pressure.

And then there’s the air conditioning.

Honestly, we couldn’t be more grateful for it! It has been an absolute godsend — for people and paws alike. So, as we head into another little heatwave, remember that Village Green is a pretty good place to escape the sunshine for a while.

Come and find a shady spot, cool down and treat yourself to a delicious, long iced latte. You’re welcome.

Have you tried our summer menu yet?

A new Summer menu!

We launched our new summer menu in July and we’ve been thrilled with the response. There’s a gorgeous summer salad bowl, our open whipped feta and nectarine sandwich, and, for breakfast, banana & maple French toast — because sometimes breakfast really does need to feel like a treat.

The feedback so far has been amazing, but if you haven’t tried them yet, you’ll just have to come and make your own mind up!

August in Eyam

August is always one of our busiest months, and this year is no exception.

We’re heading towards one of the most special times of the year in Eyam, with Wakes Week, the Village Show, our annual well dressings and, of course, Eyam Carnival.

If you’ve never experienced it, it really is something special. The well dressings are breathtaking every year, showcasing incredible creativity, patience and traditional skills, while the whole village comes together to celebrate its community and heritage.

It’s one of those times when Eyam feels particularly alive — and we love being part of it.

Although, before the August madness really gets going, my other half and I are sneaking away to Donegal for a little mini break. Music, scenery, good food and hopefully a bit of sunshine. I absolutely cannot wait!

Looking ahead…

Join us at Book Club!

There’s lots to look forward to as we head towards autumn.

We’re incredibly excited to be launching our first ever Village Green Book Club.

We’ll be meeting on the third Thursday of every month, with our first book being Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty.

Tickets can be booked here, and Anna and I are really looking forward to welcoming you. The idea is simple: a good book, good conversation, good company — and, naturally, something delicious to eat and drink.

We’re also very excited to be collaborating with Netty Lou on two creative projects. On 12 October, you’ll be able to join us to create your own fabric pumpkin, just in time for autumn.

And there’s another community drop-in project in the pipeline too, which we’ll be announcing very soon. We can’t wait to share more!

A little summer recommendation…

Finally, if you’re looking for something lovely to do on a day away from the Peaks, I’ve recently been enjoying the Ai Weiwei exhibition at Aviva Studios in Manchester.

It’s thought-provoking, visually incredible and definitely worth making the trip for.

And if you do find yourself heading back our way afterwards, you know where to find us…

See you at Village Green. 💚
