Sustainability
Since we opened in 2012 sustainability has been at the heart of how we do business. We have held the Peak District Environmental Quality Mark for over 10 years and remain committed to continual improvement of our business practices to tread as lightly as we are able on the environment.

Since we opened in 2012 sustainability has been at the heart of how we do business. We have held the Peak District Environmental Quality Mark for over 10 years and remain committed to continual improvement of our business practices to tread as lightly as we are able on the environment.
This is demonstrated by the products we use such as compostable takeaway packaging, reducing food waste and supporting other small businesses within our local community.
Many of our suppliers are specifically chosen because they also show real commitment to a better way of trading, for example paying higher, fairer prices to coffee farmers in the case of Cuppers Choice and Darkwoods Coffee (our roasters) or by giving back to the environment via charity donations as Charitea and Jamu, two of our brilliant soft drink suppliers do.

All our decisions are considered and thought through; our choices have a positive impact elsewhere.

Grant funding
We were the grateful recipient of a Derbyshire Dales Rural Innovation Grant last year. This contributed to the cost of a significant refurbishment, allowing us to create a streamlined & comfortable space working hard for our customers and team.
We worked with local folk to realise our vision, collaborating with Hannah Bennet, a local sculptor for finishing touches such as our table numbers.
Since the refurbishment we have been able to use the space for creative workshops, hosting Lino-printing, floristry and wreath making. More are planned for the Autumn, giving folk a space to learn new skills, find community and gather.
We also addressed practical issues, creating an area to house a washing machine which has cut our carbon footprint as our daily washing is now dried on an airer overnight at the cafe rather than tumble dried.
Thanks to the grant our newly revamped space has given us the headspace to continue to focus, reflect and improve on our business practices.
