So here we are already into December, and coming in to the final push of our big refurb.  New gift stock has arrived, crockery is waiting to be unpacked and new aprons are about to be embroidered ready for reopening.

Refurb News & Reopening Date

We are running a little behind schedule so we will now be reopening Monday 15th December at 9.30am not the planned 7th December. Good reasons for this - we have also done some work in the world’s tiniest loo and some elements have just taken more time than anticipated due to our old building and constraints of several folk working in a small space.  The devil is definitely in the detail and we want to get it right.

Xmas Opening Times

We re-open from 15th December

  • Monday - Friday 9.30am-3.30pm

  • Saturdays 9am-4pm

  • Sundays 10am-4pm

Closed 24-26th December inclusive

Reopen Saturday 27th December 9.30am-4pm

Normal hours resume.

Our Winter Menu & New Suppliers

Our new Winter Menu is now live on our website and I’d like to introduce Jody Orme, owner of Live and Let's Pie in New Mills.  Until recently a fellow cafe owner, she has now created a wholesale pie business making the most beautiful pies which we are really happy to feature on our  Winter Menu.  We share very similar values, she really uses great local ingredients and everything is made with skill and care.

Golden-brown pies with decorative tops arranged neatly, some with herb sprinkles. The setting is a rustic kitchen. Warm and inviting mood. Pies by Jody Orme at Live and Let's Pie

On our Winter menu will be her ‘HO HO HO’ pie - Xmas lunch in a pie (roast turkey, pigs in blankets, stuffing, cranberry sauce & veggies)  and also the ‘NO NO NO’ pie for you plant-based folk (roast veg, potatoes, chestnut, apricot and mushroom stuffing, cranberry sauce and gravy).  Served at the cafe with wedges and more veg & gravy.

You will also be able to take these away frozen to enjoy at home.

Another new supplier to us is the Courtyard Dairy in the Lake District - they champion artisan cheesemakers from all over the country and we are sourcing some great cheddar style cheeses, produced at small family farms to pack a punch in your favourite toasties.  You can find more about them here, on their website.  If you are quick you can still order a cheese hamper for a cheese-lover in your family.

Our Gift Vouchers

On the subject of gifting why not gift a VG voucher to enjoy time out with good food and drink at the cafe.  Vouchers start at £5 and are valid for a year - they can be purchased through our website and either sent via post or email.

Order Online

You can also click on our shop to order our delicious mince pies (our own mincemeat with local apples and brandy topped with frangipane in an almond pastry case), whole cakes and tarts to take the pressure off the festive cooking.

Thank You & Christmas Wishes!

More than anything I want to say a huge and heartfelt thank you to all of you for supporting our small business - without you we wouldn’t be here.  I wish a happy and peaceful Christmas to all of you, however you celebrate.  We hope that we are part of it in whatever small way; a catch up with a friend to escape the Xmas madness or a box of mince pies to enjoy at home.

Much love at Xmas,

Sara & Team VG
